English

This free page helps foreign residents in Korea at the doctor's and at the pharmacy when language is a barrier. In a consultation the doctor quickly asks where it hurts, since when, how bad it is, whether you have allergies and which medicines you take. If answering in Korean is hard, tap your answers here and show the screen: the card shows large Korean text for the doctor and, underneath, the same content in your language so you can check it.

How it works

  • Step 1, where: tap the body picture (front and back) or pick from a list of 20 body parts. With a keyboard, use Tab and Enter on the list buttons.
  • Step 2, symptoms: 40 things you can feel, such as fever, cough, diarrhea, dizziness or a rash, in eight groups.
  • Step 3, since when and how bad: since today, since yesterday, for about a week; a little uncomfortable, quite painful, very bad, getting worse.
  • Step 4, allergies and medicines: choose allergies such as antibiotics, painkillers, contrast dye or peanuts, and type the names of medicines you take in one box, in any script. Your text appears on the card exactly as typed.
  • Step 5, pregnancy and long-term conditions: pregnant, breastfeeding, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and more.
  • The card: show it full screen in large type, print it, or save it on this device if you wish. Saving uses this browser's localStorage only and nothing is uploaded; if storage is blocked the card still works.

Reading a pharmacy bag, and which department

Korean pharmacy bags carry short phrases such as 식후 30분 (30 minutes after a meal), 1일 3회 (three times a day), 3일분 (a 3-day supply), 취침 전 (at bedtime) and 냉장 보관 (keep in the fridge). Tap a number on the example bag to jump to its meaning; all 61 terms are listed with romanization, a plain Korean explanation and English, plus your language when you choose one, and you can search them. There is no single national layout for pharmacy bags, so these are common wordings rather than a standard. The department table shows which department people commonly visit for a group of complaints; it is not a diagnosis.

What it never does

It never guesses a disease from symptoms, never recommends a medicine and never calculates a dose: it only puts your own choices into Korean. Nothing is sent to a server and no translation service or AI runs while you use it. In a real emergency, do not stop to make a card: call 119. Korean law gives foreigners staying in Korea the same right to emergency care.

Languages and translation notice

The interface, the 90 intake items, the 61 pharmacy terms and the department table are available in 16 languages. Korean and English were written by OByeolLab; the other 14 languages are AI translation drafts that have not yet been reviewed by native speakers. Medical words are easy to get wrong, so for anything important show the Korean card itself. After the first visit the page also opens offline.

FAQ

Where does my information go?
Nowhere. The card is built on your screen and stays in this browser only if you press "Save on this device".
Does the hospital require this card?
No. It is a note to help you communicate; it does not replace the hospital's own forms or registration.
Will it tell me which hospital to go to?
The table shows departments people commonly visit, but it is not a diagnosis. If unsure, ask at reception or start with family medicine or internal medicine. With warning signs such as chest pain, trouble breathing or sudden weakness on one side of the body, do not look for a department: call 119 (see the list below the department table).
I did not understand the pharmacist's explanation.
When dispensing, a pharmacist must explain the medicine (its name, how and how much to take, storage, side effects) orally or on paper (Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, Art. 24(4)). Ask them to explain again slowly, or ask for the written leaflet (복약지도서). How much and when always follows the bag and the pharmacist, not this page.
Can foreigners use the emergency room? What if I cannot pay?
Yes. The Emergency Medical Service Act gives foreigners staying in Korea the right to emergency care (Art. 3), and emergency medical workers may not refuse it without a justifiable reason (Art. 6). You still have to pay, but if an emergency patient cannot pay on the spot, a public fund can pay the hospital and later recover the money from the patient (Art. 22). It is not free: the money must be paid back.
